Despite the limited size of the region, the Macau aviation industry has been growing steadily since its inception two decades ago, with passenger traffic at the Macau International Airport (MIA) accounting to almost 20% of the total visitors to the territory in 2015.
Estimates are that the industry will ramp up in the near future, as a result of the further integration of Macau with the emerging Hengqin Island / Zhuhai and neighboring Hong Kong SAR, namely through more expedite border controls and near completion state-of-the-art transportation infrastructures connecting said destinations, such as the new Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macau Bridge and the new Taipa Ferry Terminal, which are expected to increasingly profile the MIA as a valid alternative to the Zhuhai and Hong Kong International Airports, for both commercial and executive aviation.
